Bamboo Nappies

Why bamboo nappies?  It does sound weird.

Well, if ever there was a natural fabric that is absolutely sustainable, and the most perfect renewable resource, it is the bamboo plant.

I can testify to the rapidity of its growth in optimal conditions.  It’s in my back garden and nothing can stop its growth!  It’s rampant!  Just give it warmth, humidity and moisture and I swear it will grow before your eyes.  In tropical countries it can grow up to 100 centimetres in just twenty-four hours!

Now we all know that bamboo can be applied to a huge variety of uses.  Bamboo is both strong and durable.

Moreover some types of bamboo are fully-grown within as little as four years.  Consequently, people have for centuries, used it for building, making furniture, for basket-weaving, for flooring and of course, in some cultures,  the young, tender shoots are used for eating.

Some of the strongest varieties have even been used in the building of bridges.  It’s tough and it’s affordable.

Being anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, breathable, and wonderfully absorbent, somebody had to discover its other virtues one day!  And discover them they did - for babies’ nappies of all things!

These nappies must surely be a winner over disposable nappies when it comes to the care of your baby!  Bamboo is a material that is a godsend to mothers whose children suffer allergic reactions!  Being sixty per cent more absorbent than cotton this fabric is even more appealing for night-time care.

Apart from the clear health benefits of using bamboo nappies, the relief in your purse is not to be scoffed at.  When you think that the cost of using disposables is between two and three thousand dollars per child, doesn’t it make sense to make the switch?

Besides, the bamboo nappies last well, and consequently will provide for subsequent children, and won’t be sent to languish in the disposable landfill graves for all eternity!

As I said, the bamboo plant is not only such a renewable resource, but also, it requires little or no maintenance, and gives a huge amount of oxygen back to the environment.

These days, as global warming becomes more and more of a concern for the earth, and as companies search for ethical and sustainable ways in which to do business, using bamboo for clothing and in particular, babies’ nappies makes such good economic and environmental sense.

Aside from the environmental and sustainability issues in choosing to use bamboo over cotton or disposables, bamboo nappies have some other wonderful features that should merit considering.

Is there any mother out there who doesn’t want wonderfully soft materials next to their baby’s skin?  That is certainly one of the product’s virtues.  It is also wonderfully absorbent, all-natural, and even after many washes, the nappies retain their antibacterial virtue!

It’s my opinion that bamboo nappies are here to stay.  Not only will your baby thrive in their comfort, but in using them, you will be doing your bit for the environment!
